THE “GOLFO DI PATTI" COAST ADOPTION GROUP
The “Golfo di Patti" Coast Adoption Group (CAG) was established to obtain and manage financial resources provided by the European Fisheries Fund. The fund aims to strengthen competitivity in fishing zones, overhaul the fishing sector, and support small fisheries and tourism for communities whose livelihood depends on this activity. All “Golfo di Patti” CAG operations aim to create sustainable growth for the fishing communities in this attractive area of the Mediterranean coastline.
To achieve this goal, “Golfo di Patti” CAG has undertaken numerous activities. It has evaluated the environmental heritage by organising sea safeguarding and sea cleaning expeditions; it has promoted local fishing produce to encourage a growth gastronomical activities which use local catch; it has improved boat landing spot management in order to ease the operations and logistics of the local fishing industry; it has encouraged an update of the fishing boats, making them suitable for fishing tourism in order to increase the number of visitors to this territory.
The constant commitment of public and private participants who make up “Golfo di Patti” CAG has made this possible. They contribute to the increased productivity of both the community and the territory. The leader in the CAG is the Patti Municipality, followed by the Municipalities of Gioiosa Marea, Oliveri, Falcone, Furnari, Terme Vigliatore, Barcelona P.G. and Milazzo, the Regional Province of Messina and the Aeolian coastline Fish Restocking Consortium. All private partners operate in the sectors of fishing, fishing produce distribution and tourism.
